The exhibition, came about primarily due to the work done on the ground by the NGO Liveinslums, which worked for two years in a development cooperation project, fostering the construction of a school and the setting up of a community agricultural project in the Mathare slum.
“The NGO invited me to participate to the project. They asked me to design the school furnishing and equipment using only local materials and manpower. From the observation of the environment I suddenly realized I was in front of a unique system and extraordinary catalogue of objects, that I have chosen and collected from the markets of the slum. Hand crafted but designed with the logic of small scale production: knives, rubber shoes, pots, street food stalls, etc.which forms the core of the exhibition Made in Slums.”
Take a look to the objects!
